Lerato N is in Race 6 on Thursday, June 5th. She is in the Fillies & Mares Non-Winners of $2601 in the Last 4 Starts which is a bit easier class than her previous start and she has a promising chance at finishing really well in this race.
Dylan the Great was in Race 9 on Sunday, June 1st. He got away 4th and stayed there until the last turn where he unfortunately made a break and finished 6th. Dylan raced at Cal Expo prior to coming to Running Aces. Cal Expo is a mile track, whereas Running Aces is a 5/8th mile track. This means horses must navigate more turns and sharper turns as compared to racing on a mile track. Beyond that, trotters are generally more sensitive to changes and can require equipment adjustments from track to track to help them stay on gait. His trainer, Alexia Kehl, says they’re going to make some adjustments this week and are working hard to put the best version of Dylan out on the track for you all.
Cut A Rug (Carter) was in Race 6 on Sunday, June 1st. He got away towards the back of the pack, was parked out for half of the mile, and finished 7th. Being "parked out" means that the horse has moved to the outside flow of the race and while they must do this to pass the other horses in the race, it also means they are going a farther distance than those on the inside. Carter definitely tried his hardest, but the race went a bit too fast for him (1:52.1). This isn't too much of a concern since the condition of this race is based on how much a horse has earned in the last 4 starts. As the meet goes on, horses will move in and out of this class and we anticipate it will get a bit less tough here in the coming weeks. For example, the top two finishing horses in Carter's race have now earned enough that they will now need to move up in class to another race and will not be able to drop back down to this race for at least four starts. Carter's trainers have informed us that he is resting today and plans on being back at it next week!
